Enrico Benedetto, Rivolgersi a Dio. La preghiera evangelica da Lutero all’evento pentecostale: cinque secoli tra fervore e disincanto

Nella prolusione dell’Anno Accademico 2018-19, il prof. Enrico Benedetto – docente di Teologia pratica presso la Facoltà valdese – affronta le tematiche, varie e complesse, dell’eucologia, prendendo spunto da uno scritto di Lutero (A Mastro Pietro Balbirer su come pregare) del 1535, dall’approccio singolarmente attuale. Delineata la preghiera come accettazione della precarietà (le due parole etimologicamente coincidono) e della finitudine, l’articolo esamina il suo status (e statu quo) nel panorama protestante contemporaneo, ove la disaffezione e talora un analfabetismo eucologico di ritorno costituiscono, almeno in Europa, un dato rilevante. Viene infine evocata, in tensione critica con tale depauperamento, la centralità d’una preghiera intesa spesso come atto performativo, individuale o comunitario, in ambito carismatico.

Enrico Benedetto, Turning to God. The Protestant Prayer from Luther to the Pentecostal Event: Five Centuries between Fervour and Disenchantment

In the inaugural lecture of the Academic Year 2018-19, Professor Enrico Benedetto – Chair of Practical Theology at the Waldensian Faculty – confronts the various and complex themes of the studies of Prayer, taking, as a starting point, Luther’s writing (To Master Peter Balbirer on How to Pray) of 1535, whose approach is particularly topical. After having described prayer as an acceptance of precariousness (both words have the same etymological origin) and finitude, this article examines its status (and status quo) in the present Protestant panorama, where lack of interest and sometimes a secondary euchological illiteracy are a relevant datum, at least in Europe. Finally, the Author mentions the central position of prayer as the performative act of a single person or of the congregation in a charismatic context, in a critical tension with the said impoverishment.

Questo articolo riprende le posizioni espresse da Noth e Lust sul libro di Daniele e formula l’ipotesi che il famoso passo 7,13 del libro di Daniele, in cui si fa riferimento a una misteriosa figura di «uno come un figlio d’uomo», derivi da una tradizione precedente, nella quale potrebbe essersi manifestata, per la prima volta in un testo vetero testamentario, l’idea di due distinte ipostasi divine.

The article resumes Noth’s and Lust’s opinions on the Book of Daniel. In particular, it advances the hypothesis that the famous passage in verse 7.13 of the Book of Daniel which mentions the mysterious figure: ‘one like the Son of man’, derives from an ancient tradition in which the concept of two different divine hypostasis might have been formulated, for the first time in a Prophetic text of the Old Testament.

L’articolo sostiene la tesi dell’opportunità di riconsiderare la pratica della direzione spirituale, configurandola, secondo un’ottica protestante, come formazione teologica integrata da un accompagnamento psico-spirituale dello studente. Si tratterà dunque di assumere i recenti sviluppi delle tecniche psicodinamiche come ulteriore strumento di formazione esperienziale, al fine di perseguire una sorta di pedagogia dello sviluppo integrale della persona. L’introduzione di un accompagnamento extracurriculare può facilitare l’assimilazione della Parola come parte del nucleo identitario del proprio Sé; un Sé in cui la teologia studiata diventi la modalità dell’operare pastorale.

This article supports the thesis that it is advisable to re-consider the practice of spiritual direction, outlining it, from a Protestant point of view, as theological training integrated by a psycho-spiritual support of the student. This will mean using the recent developments of psycho-dynamic techniques as a further instrument for the experiential training, in order to obtain a sort of education of the integral development of the person. The extra-curricular support thus introduced can make it easier to take in the Word as part of the identity nucleus of the Self; a Self for which the Theology studied can become the manner of pastoral work.
